Hearing Aid Fittings
Fitting techniques and technology has changed dramatically over the last 10 years. There are now even cell phone Apps- that can play a role! When you get your first hearing instrument, they are adjusted and programmed to provide the correct amount of amplification specific to a person needs. Based on your age, gender, audiogram results and experience with hearing aids we come up with a prescription for your hearing aids. At Rocky Mountain Audiology, Dr. Stakiw takes a personal interest in ensuring you are provided with a hearing instrument that is adjusted specific to your unique needs.
The initial fitting and the monthly follow up appointments are meant to get you to a position where you no longer have to think about your hearing aids – they are simply part of your day. We work with you during this time, to educate and adjust your new hearing instrument so you get the comfort and sound you deserve. Most hearing aids adapt automatically to get you to your target hearing range. When purchasing hearing aids through Rocky Mountain Audiology follow up appointments regarding your hearing aids are a complimentary service.
After the consult and evaluation and you have selected the hearing aids that will best fit your needs, Dr. Stakiw will program them to meet your specific hearing needs. After being programmed, Dr. Stakiw will also explain how to properly place and remove them from the ear canal, how to change or charge the batteries and how to care for and clean the hearing aids.
Appointments generally take at least one hour, possibly more, however our hearing professionals will provide information before you come in so you know what to expect. It is also a good idea to bring a family member or close friend to the hearing aid fitting so they can help remember all the information that is given and be a support to you.
Understanding Your Hearing Aids
When you place your hearing aids in your ears for the first time, you may have different emotions about the sounds you hear. This is perfectly normal and to be expected. The goal of the hearing aid is to make everyday sounds audible and comfortable, however the sound you hear should be clear and pleasant. Small changes and adjustments can be made to the hearing aids at your first fitting by Dr. Stakiw if there are things that you feel should be adjusted right away. Additional testing may also be done to ensure that your new hearing aids are giving you enough sound where you need it. Additionally, we encourage you to ask any questions or discuss any concerns with us!

You may be also be given a short survey or list of questions to answer. Be honest about what you hear so that the hearing professional can work with you to create the best listening experience with your new hearing aids. Your hearing aid fitting is only a starting place; other changes to customize the hearing to your liking may need to take place over a few appointments.
